Rock Hill, S.C. (July 24 2013) -- The Texaco Country Showdown, the national singing competition, returns to Rock Hill Galleria on Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to cheer area singers competing for the chance to advance to the southeastern finals, and potentially the national finals where the National Texaco Country Music Showdown winner will receive $100,000 and a Nashville recording contract.
Major past winners from the area include Lancaster’s Julie Roberts in 1998 and Monroe’s Karla Davis in 2009. Davis, the National Winner in 2009, got her start at Rock Hill Galleria, where she won the local competition. After three decades, the Country Showdown has opened doors for many of country music’s biggest stars. The competition boasts a "who's who" in the country music industry with past local, state and regional winners including Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Chris Black, Martina McBride, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sara Evans and Miranda Lambert.
The Texaco Annual Country Showdown goal is to discover promising country music talent in America and to give these performers a chance to launch their professional music careers. The Rock Hill Galleria Country Showdown is one of 450 local talent contests sponsored by country music radio stations throughout the U.S. The Rock Hill Galleria winner will advance to the State competition for the opportunity to advance to one of five Regional Finals. The Regional winners will compete at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, for the Grand Prize of $100,000 and the National Title.
The public is invited to cheer area singers competing on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on stage in center court at Rock Hill Galleria, located at 2301 Dave Lyle Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC 29730. Attendees at the event will also have the opportunity to win prizes from Rock Hill Galleria merchants.
