ROCK HILL GALLERIA ANNOUNCES JCPENNEY EXPANSION

ROCK HILL, South Carolina (September 27, 2011) – The developers of Rock Hill Galleria announced today that the 470,000-square-foot regional mall will initiate a comprehensive renovation and expansion of mall anchor jcpenney.  Construction will begin soon and is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

jcpenney has been a key department store anchor at Rock Hill Galleria since 1991.  The expansion of jcpenney will increase the store’s size from 51,600 square feet to more than 83,000 square feet.  The renovated store will be designed in the company’s latest format to make shopping even more convenient and enjoyable while showcasing jcpenney’s many innovative brands and concepts.

“We’re committed to making fashion more accessible and creating a sense of discovery for our customers,” said Tony Bartlett, senior vice president of stores, jcpenney.  “The decision to expand our store reflects our confidence in the future of Rock Hill Galleria and the Rock Hill community.  We’re confident our customers will be delighted with our newly renovated store, which will be a showcase for jcpenney’s great brands and industry-leading customer service.”

The jcpenney renovation is slated to be complete by fall 2012.

City of Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols commented, "We are fortunate that in this tough economy, Rock Hill Galleria continues to be an economic engine for our community.  The expansion of jcpenney will enhance the shopping options for the residents of Rock Hill and surrounding communities."

Further boosting the business potential for retailers, restaurants and hotels along Dave Lyle Boulevard, the City of Rock Hill recently initiated significant improvements to the sidewalk and landscaping in the area surrounding Rock Hill Galleria, making the region more pedestrian-friendly.  In addition, the new gateway monument towers along the boulevard further aid in branding this retail and entertainment corridor.

“The jcpenney expansion is a positive step in re-energizing the retail offerings at the tri-county’s only enclosed shopping center,” stated Michael Wheat, executive vice president and director of leasing for Cypress Equities, the Galleria’s developer and managing agent.  “We look forward to continuing our efforts to enhance the Rock Hill Galleria visitor experience.”

Rock Hill Galleria is located on Dave Lyle Boulevard directly off I-77 at Exit 79.  Rock Hill Galleria is anchored by belk, Sears and jcpenney, plus offers a variety of specialty stores including Victoria’s Secret, Aeropostale, Hot Topic, Yankee Candle, rue21, Kay Jewelers and Bath & Body Works.  Mall shopping hours are 10am - 9pm Monday through Saturday and noon - 6pm on Sunday.
